We received dozens of pleas from all over the state to help June. Her sad eyes said it all. Even though we know that it takes a special individual to adopt a senior dog, we couldn't turn our backs on this loyal companion. Named for the month that her new life will begin, June has already earned the devotion of our volunteers. June has told us that she wants to be the only canine queen in her castle, but in return, some lucky person will have a true friend.

June is active and plays with toys. She loves to go for walks but she could use some work on her leash manners. Her ideal home would be as a single dog with a retired person, senior citizen, or someone who is home a great deal.

UPDATE: June 20

Since June's rescue, we learned that she had a rather large mass on her chest and our wonderful vet, Dr. Earl, successfully removed not one but FOUR large tumors. The tumors were so big that it required that a 5" x 14" piece of skin be removed from June's abdomen. June is recovering in the hospital and she is expected to be back on her feet in a couple of weeks.

UPDATE: July 15
June is recovering from her surgery in a cozy foster home. She is grateful for every small kindness, and she is making great progress. We know that it will take a special person to adopt a senior girl, but if you are looking for a loyal, affectionate companion, don't pass up this gem! She loves to give kisses to let you know how special you are!

Brad and Angie are a deeply bonded pair of "great white" shepherds. They are gentle and affectionate and don't seem to know how large they are. Our volunteers even watched them playing with some chihuahuas! Brad & Angie love everyone that they meet. We can't imagine what led a person or family to abandon these beautiful dogs, but someone invested a lot of love in them at some point in their lives.

Brad & Angie have just arrived so we are getting to know them better. Stay tuned for photos and more information coming shortly!

These two dogs must be placed as a pair. The adoption fee for the two dogs is $600, which includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming and microchip.

To arrange to meet them, please contact Lisalani2001@yahoo.com

When we heard about Brandon's situation, we knew that he needed a break. He and his companion dog, a golden retriever, had been the lifelong companions of someone who could no longer care for them. Brandon's buddy has found a home, so now it's Brandon's turn to be loved. Brandon has been diagnosed with a heart condition called arhythmia, which means that he has an abnormal heartbeat and can affect his circulation when he gets overly exerted. He is on daily heart medication to help control this condition. It's impossible to predict whether this condition will shorten Brandon's life or not, but he needs to lead a fairly sedate lifestyle. He also requires daily medication to help him with some arthritis in his spine. This poor guy needs someone extra special to scoop him up and love him regardless of his medical needs.

Brandon has completed a basic obedience class, and he was an honor student! He has a strong desire to please and he is so appreciative of praise. He is great on car rides. Brandon is a loving, loyal friend with a very sweet nature. He just loves it when someone tells him what a 'good boy' he is. Please don't overlook Brandon just because he's not 'perfect'.

Jade von Meister is a pretty 9 year old long haired AKC German Shepherd.  She is playful, loving, and loyal.  She seems to fit into any group and does well with both large and small dogs.  She's housetrained and enjoys regular walks and gladly greets anyone who wants to say hello.  Jade loves to cuddle and kiss, but is also perfectly content to rest in her favorite spot.  She was raised around children and enjoys their company but, does not do so well with cats.

ADOPT CORA!

Female Korean Jindo dog.  Born September 2000.  Spayed 2000.  Beautiful, fox-like appearance:  short dense coat, red with cream markings, curly tail, prick ears, sharp muzzle, black nose, bright brown eyes, very alert, intelligent expression.  Current on all vac's.  Very housebroken.  About 35 lbs, about 20 inches at shoulder.  Excellent health.  Teeth cleaned Nov. 2007.  Gentle, loving, non-aggressive with humans.  She is willing to give kisses, but not overwhelming about it.  She is quite funny and playful, and does flips in the air when she is happy and excited, such as seeing people she hasn't seen in a while.  She may try to avoid very aggressive, assertive people, but is not hostile.  She has high energy, with a very intelligent, loyal, alpha personality.  She's a very good watchdog - barks at trespassers, but not excessively.  She likes to lie close to the front door or be watchful and alert in a front window when inside; likes to bask in the sun when outside.  Cora requires a caregiver with prior dog training experience; we prefer someone who has had a Jindo, or other Asiatic, spitz-type breeds (Akita, chow, malamute, etc.)  Her big issue is that she is completely unsocialized to other animals.  She behaves well on leash around other dogs, but is very protective and territorial about her own home space.  So she must be an only dog.  And she has a very strong instinct to chase and catch small moving things, so cannot live with other types of pets -- even birds -- and needs a secure 6 foot fenced yard for exercise.  Cora is very good and safe around children; however, we believe most children do not have the discernment or judgment to manage her - there is too much risk that a child will take her out off-leash, or accidentally let her slip out a door, or allow friends to bring other pets into the house with her.  Therefore if adopters have children, they should be at least age 12, and the family should all be equally engaged and committed to Cora's care and training.   She enjoys having time outdoors, but we will not let her become a yard dog or junkyard dog.  We are willing to place her in a permanent no-kill retirement or rescue facility, if she can have her own indoor-outdoor space and some daily human attention.  Cora started out being adopted from L.A. animal control, kept in a backyard pen for 3 years, rescued, fostered by same people who have her now, adopted (for 3 years, 05-08), now back in foster family's hands due to adopter's illness.  Legally licensed and microchipped in foster person's name.  Cora will be formally placed only after application form submission, reference check, home-check, in-person meeting, and trial visit.  Adoption fee ($75-125 sliding scale) to be made as a donation to a mutually agreed-on rescue group.

Nina is a sweet and beautiful, gangly, too tall, gentle 7 year old German Shepherd with huge expressive eyes in which her broken heart shows. Nina was so devoted and gentle when my mother got really ill.  She would lie next to my mother and her eyes seemed to well with tears every time the ambulance came to take my mother to the hospital.  Every time that someone would come to the door, she would look beyond them, desperately hoping to see my mother.  And one day she seemed to realize that my mother was never coming home again.  She sighed and slowly lowered her head,  And from that day on her heart has been broken.

My mother's last wishes were that the dogs remain in her home until new homes could be found for them. A friend of hers has been staying there out of kindness but cannot stay there much longer, nor can I afford to pay for my mother's mortgage much longer.  I have never been good at asking for help. But I need your help now to find a home, or even foster, for these broken hearted animals and to honor my mother.  Please contact me at 77dognights@sbcglobal.net if you can help.   ----Chela
